The challenge
Fagforbundet identified the need for improved access to data, reports, and analyses when they formulated their digitalization strategy. The existing solution involved manual processes for collecting, compiling, and sharing information, making it time-consuming to obtain the necessary data for decision-making. This increased the risk of decisions being based on outdated or incorrect information.
Solution
To address this challenge, it was decided to implement an analysis platform. The goal was to provide Fagforbundet's end-users with quick access to updated and high-quality data. The platform would automate processes such as data collection, storage, and transformation for analysis and reporting.
The most concrete challenge that the analysis platform solves is to provide a tool for analyzing the membership base. This tool helps those responsible for member recruitment to keep track of membership numbers nationwide. The goal was to ensure that the organization did not lose members and could continue to grow within various geographical areas and professions.
Technology
The analysis platform is implemented based on MS Fabric and PowerBI, and includes the following core components:
- ●Pipelines: These handle integration and ETL processes against professional systems and other data sources.
- ●Azure Data Lake and OneLake: This is where we store and retrieve master data using SQL in a columnar data format.
- ●Spark: This component is used to transform and analyze data.
- ●Azure Purview: A data catalog that contains data resources, including all data sources and users. Additionally, the data catalog includes a glossary that describes the definitions of all terms used in the analysis platform.
- ●DevOps CI/CD, YAML, and Git: Continuous deployment of solutions with source control.
- ●Terraform: The construction of the analysis platform is done using Infrastructure as Code, and changes in the infrastructure are carefully documented through version control in Azure DevOps.
Value for the customer
Fagforbundet now has access to a modern cloud-based analysis platform that automates and streamlines the collection, processing, and availability of data.
- ●The organization has received an updated decision-making basis for membership development, which allows for targeting, adapting, and evaluating measures related to recruiting new members, for example through recruitment campaigns.
- ●PowerBI dashboards are implemented for viewing and filtering data from the membership register, and employees have undergone training in PowerBI to perform their own analyses.
- ●The latest data sources from SSB, Brønnøysundregistrene, Aksjonærregisteret, and Nav provide decision-makers in Fagforbundet with a better data basis when negotiating wages, supporting political decision-making processes, or improving membership benefits for their members.
- ●The platform also provides mechanisms to evaluate privacy risks through Data Protection Impact Assessment (DPIA)
